Besozzo is a town in northern Italy, Lombardy region, and the province of Varese. The area is known as the Lakes Region, famous for its beautiful lakes – Lake Lugano, Lake Como, Lake Maggiore, only being a few of them. Besozzo is in close proximity of Lake Maggiore, Lake Varese, the city of Como, and an hour drive to Milan. It is also close to the border with Switzerland, France, and Croatia, and some of the most famous skiing destinations, such as Chamonix and Zermatt.
Besozzo consists of a small historical town centre in its upper part, and a vibrant and modern centre with shopping, cafes, restaurants, etc. in its lower part. Besozzo has a train station on the Luino–Milan railway, and a fast road linking it to the Italian highway system, which leads to both the center of Milan, Como and to Switzerland, and the Alps.
With its natural beauty, small town appeal, and its central location, Besozzo – not unlike the other neighbouring towns – has increasingly become a preferred option for families moving from Milan becoming commuters. For this reason, the area has been growing considerably.
As many surrounding villages, it has grown considerably and it still doing so, in part because of families moving from Milan to region of lakes and becoming commuters. Besozzo is also very close to the Ispra site of the European Union’s Joint Research Centre (JRC).
